UPDATE: Police identify body found in Ishpeming

UPDATE: July 24th, 2018, 12:22 P.M.: The Ishpeming Police Department, with assistance from UPHS-Marquette, have positively identified the female found in a field near the Ishpeming Football Field as 26-year-old Kayla Jean Gilstorff of Ishpeming.

The cause and manner of death are still under investigation. Anyone who may have had contact with Kayla after Saturday, July 14th are asked to call the Ishpeming Police Department at (906) 486-4416.


UPDATE: July 23rd, 4:13 P.M.: An autopsy was performed by UPHS – Marquette on the body that was found Friday in a field northwest of the Ishpeming High School football stadium.

The cause and manner of death have still not been determined, however nothing suspicious was found during the autopsy.

The Ishpeming Police Department believe they know the identity of the victim, but are awaiting dental records verification before releasing a name. They have been in contact with the family since Friday.

The investigation is ongoing.


ISHPEMING — At 12:42pm Friday afternoon, the Ishpeming Police Department received a call from a subject riding a mountain bike that he had found a body in the field northwest of the Ishpeming High School football stadium.

The body appears to be that of a female, between 20-30 years old. The victim has not been positively identified and an autopsy will be performed on Monday.

The Ishpeming Police Department contacted the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and a forensic anthropologist from Northern Michigan University to assist on the scene. Police are continuing their investigation into the identity of the victim and the cause of her death.
