HAIGHT TOWNSHIP — The Western Upper Peninsula Health Department (WUPHD) has determined that surface water samples collected at certain beaches on Lake Superior and some inland lakes contain high levels of E. Coli and/or fecal coliform bacteria.

Recent tests conducted by the WUPHD have found levels that exceed the safe limits of skin contact established by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) at the Bond Falls Reservoir. As a result, WUPHD has closed the Bond Falls Reservoir to all recreational activity until further notice.

Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO) Officials remind the public to abide by the temporary closure until the area is determined safe for recreational activity.
