Noquemanon Trail Network holds large presence at commission meeting

MARQUETTE — Marquette City Hall held a commission meeting about many agenda items which also included the Heartwood Forestland property.

Tonight they discussed a strategic plan to work with the loss of the tax revenues from the closing of the Presque Isle Power and Shiras Steam plants. Marquette city officials are looking at requests for qualifications from possible developers that may be interested in the Heartwood Forestland property.

This property also has popular recreational trails that are located on parts of the land. Members of the community and the Noquemanon Trail Network had a large presence in the meeting and expressed their concerns of the trails being threatened by new developments.

A few suggested trying to buy parts of the property and or working with certain developers to help all parties win in this current situation.

The deadline for development requests is set for June 15.
