Escanaba man arrested after stabbing incident

ESCANABA — An Escanaba man was arrested following a stabbing incident that sent one man to the hospital in Escanaba on Friday.

At 8:16 a.m., Escanaba Public Safety responded to the 300 block of South 9th Street on report of a stabbing in progress. Upon arrival, officers saw one white male with a knife outside of a residence. The man was apprehended without incident.

Officers rendered first aid to the 18 year-old male stabbing victim until Rampart EMS arrived. The victim was eventually transported to OSF St. Francis Hospital with stab wounds in the chest and stomach.

The victim was then airlifted by Valley Med to UPHS – Marquette with severe injuries he sustained from the stabbing.

A 19 year-old Escanaba man was arrested and charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, a 10-year felony. He was lodged in the Delta County Jail in lieu of a $750,000 cash bond.

The case has been forwarded to the Delta County Prosecutor’s office for review. NMU Public Safety also assisted on the scene.
