MARQUETTE — Michigan’s coastline holds more lighthouses than any other state in the country.  The Superior Watershed Partnership invited the public to a free presentation about Stannard Rock Lighthouse.

The event was on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. where they held the presentation at the Citizen’s Forum in the Lakeview Arena. The presentation included history and facts, as well as old photographs of the structures as they stand today.

The presenters also went over the challenges facing preservation efforts. Also looking for the funding needed to help bring this light house back to life and find ways to raise the money in phases.

“Put that into more reasonable sized phases that can be fund raised,” said, Architect, Michelle Smay. “So as money is available, work can be done and be beneficial to the lighthouse and continue to build on that over the years.”

This is due to the Stannard Rock Light house needing over a million dollars in long-term repairs.  The lighthouse is still used for weather and scientific research.
