Three Hematites sign to play college basketball

ISHPEMING – Wednesday was college signing day, and with that, three Ishpeming girls basketball players signed to continue their education and athletic career at the next level.

Madigan Johns, Katie Loman, and Mariah Austin are not done with basketball yet. Johns is walking on at Northern Michigan University. Loman will join the Finlandia University women’s basketball team, and Austin will be a member of the Lakeland University Muskies.

“I’m super excited to be able to continue my basketball career,” said Loman. “Starting in the second grade, I fell in love with it and with the help of Coach Reichel and all the coaches that I’ve had in the past, I’m really grateful to continue playing.”

“To have them all want to do this at the same time shows what kind of the kids they are,” said Ryan Reichel, head coach of the Ishpeming girls basketball team. “They wanted to do this together as a team because that’s how they got to this level. It shows the class of these young ladies and we’re very proud to call them Ishpeming Hematites and they schools they are going to are lucky to have them.”

Best of luck to Madigan, Katie, and Mariah.
