AAUW preparing for annual book sale

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Branch of the American Association of University Women is hosting their annual book sale starting at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 26th at First Presbyterian Church on Front Street in Marquette.

Until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, people can pay a $5 entry fee to get a first look at the sale. The sale is also open on Friday, April 27th from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and there is no entry fee.

Entry is also free on Saturday, but patrons can fill one bag of books for $2 beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the sale wraps up at noon.

Prices for individual books range from $1 to $2, and there are over 30 different categories, including classics, children’s and cookbooks. All of the books for sale have been donated by the community since the collection began in March.

“We have thousands and thousands of books. I cannot compliment and thank this community enough for the donation of all the books. As you know, we’ve gathered our books from within the community, they’ve dropped them off, we’ve picked them up and I cannot say thank you enough,” said Renee Leow, the co-chair of this year’s AAUW Book Sale.

Proceeds from the book sale will fund local scholarships for women near the end of their college careers. Books that aren’t sold will be donated to St. Vincent de Paul, Bay Cliff Health Camp and local alternative high schools.
