Woman who made threat towards Social Security Administration building pleads guilty

ESCANABA — An Escanaba woman who made a threatening statement towards the Social Security Administration building in Escanaba pleaded guilty in Delta County District Court on Wednesday.

Julie Marie Lucier, 50, pleaded guilty to one count of malicious use of telecommunications services. This is a misdemeanor charge, which is punishable by up to six months in jail or a $1,000 fine.

Lucier contacted the State of Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on March 15th and made a threatening statement about “blowing-up” the Social Security building, followed by a statement that she was only kidding. Escanaba Public Safety reported that she was upset over a disputed benefit refund.

Investigators say that the female had not made any overt acts or plans to carry out her threat, nor was she intent on doing so.

Lucier is scheduled for sentencing on April 17th.
