HOUGHTON — A Hancock woman was transported to the hospital following a two-vehicle accident in Houghton on Monday.

At approximately 11:25 a.m., the Houghton Police Department responded to a two-vehicle personal injury accident at the intersection of Sharon Avenue and M-26. A Toyota, driven by an 85 year-old Hancock woman, was traveling south on M-26 and failed to yield while turning east onto Sharon Avenue.

A Saturn, driven by an 18 year-old female from Hancock, was traveling north on M-26 and struck the Toyota. Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Big T Towing and Dave’s Service.

The 85 year-old was transported by Mercy Ambulance to U.P. Health System – Portage. The accident remains under investigation.

Houghton County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan Tech Public Safety and Police Services, Houghton Fire Department, Adams Township First Responders and Michigan Tech First Responders assisted on the scene.
