MARQUETTE — Summertime brings many festivals to the area, and the Marquette Downtown Development Authority is looking to get more community members involved.
The DDA is hosting the 16th Blueberry Festival Poster Design Contest from now until May 1st. Several designs have been submitted so far, but the DDA is expecting around 20 entries total.
Submissions should be no larger than 11 inches by 17 inches, incorporate blueberries and have no words in the design. Any two-dimensional art form can be used to create the design.
The winning design will be the official poster for the event, and the artist will receive $150 in gift certificates to downtown Marquette businesses and 10 high–quality prints of their design.
“It’s a great way for the community to get involved with this event. We’ve had a lot of great designs over the years. Any kind of two–dimensional artwork you can think of, we’ve probably had some sort of entry for it,” said Tara Laase–McKinney, the promotions and events coordinator with the Marquette Downtown Development Authority. “We enjoy all of the entries that the community sends us.”
After May 1st, all of the submitted entries will be on display for the public to vote on their favorite. The location of the display has not been determined yet, but the public can also cast their votes on the DDA’s website HERE.
The votes will also be combined with the scores from a panel of judges to decide the winning design.
Blueberry Festival 2018 will be on Friday, July 27th. The selected poster will be available for purchase at the event.
