NEGAUNEE — As part of reading month, Lakeview Elementary celebrated their community reader day. Members from the community came to Lakeview to read to students.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police, Superintendent Dan Skewis, athletes from Northern Michigan University and more showed their support for children and the importance of reading.

“We think it’s really important that our children understand how much community support they really have,” Said Lakeview Principal Julie Peterson. “For our community to come in and support reading and promote reading month with our children, it really emphasizes and shows our kids that reading doesn’t stop here at Lakeview.”

Community members took time out of their days and ventured around multiple classes to give each student a chance to engage and hone their reading and listening skills. Lakeview Elementary hosts a few of these events every year to get kids excited about reading.
