MUNISING BAY — One woman was transported to the hospital following a snowmobile accident on Saturday.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. on Feburary 24th, the Alger County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a snowmobile accident that occurred on Munising Bay near the east channel lighthouse. Danielle Renee Kolbus, of Christmas, was operating her snowmobile when she struck a large mogul or chunk of ice.

The collision caused Kolbus to lose control and she was ultimately ejected from the snowmobile. Kolbus was extricated from the ice by use of hovercraft by the Alger County Rescue 21 Unit.

Kolbus was transported to Munising Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The Alger County Sheriff’s Office would like to caution all people venturing out on the ice to use extreme caution.
