MARQUETTE — New Michigan Natural Resources Commission Chair Vicki Pontz was introduced on Saturday. She was appointed by Governor Rick Snyder on December 21st, 2017.

Pontz has a long road ahead, but looks forward to tackling some big issues.

“The biggest thing facing the Department of Natural Resources and sportsmen in the state is chronic wasting disease,” she said. “As a commission we’ll be looking at building a strategy to tackle that, most importantly a strategy for engaging the sporting public into creating a strategy that works for all of us.

Pontz brings a medley of experience to the position, having worked with the Great Lakes Leadership Academy, the Michigan Department of Agriculture, and others.

“She brings a great background of policy and understanding, engagement, leadership, and so we look forward to working with Chair Pontz as she assumes her new roles and responsibilities,” said Michigan Department of Natural Resources Keith Creagh.

“I’m really happy to be spending more time in the Upper Peninsula,” said Pontz. “We have historically had two commissioners for the Upper Peninsula and now we have one.”

The Natural Resources Commission looks to become more involved with the public on issues like Chronic Wasting Disease and more.
