American Legion Hockey Team to host Annual Spaghetti Dinner

MARQUETTE — The American Legion Hockey Team is hosting their Annual Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser this Friday, January 26th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at American Legion Post 44 in Marquette.

Tickets to the event are $6 each and include a spaghetti dinner, 50-50 raffle, silent auction and bucket drawings. Every ticket will be entered in a drawing for $200, and people do not need to be present to win.

The money raised during the dinner will help offset costs for ice time.

“Ice is very expensive at almost $200 an hour and our kids are on the ice for almost five hours per week. If you do the math, that’s $1,000 per week that we’re on the ice, and that’s a six-month season,” said Ryan Riipi, parent of a player on the team and team spokesperson. “That doesn’t include the games, the referees, the timekeepers or off-ice officials.”

The public can buy tickets at American Legion Post 44, at Superior Hockey or from any of the American Legion players.

The players are between 13 and 14 years old and are currently ranked 8th in the state, with a 34-4-4 record. They also volunteer in the community frequently, including special evening cooking and visiting around the campfire with Room at the Inn guests.
