UPDATE: Names released of two people injured in Wells Township structure fire

UPDATE — Friday, January 19th at 2:00 p.m.

We have received more details from the Michigan State Police’s investigation into structure fire that occurred in Wells Township on Thursday night.

A passerby called 911 when he observed the structure on 58820 County Road 426 engulfed in flames. The residence had exploded prior to the 911 call.

The cause of the explosion and the fire is unknown and is still under investigation.

The subjects injured in the fire were 36 year-old James David Mallon and 40 year-old Danica Lynn Mallon. The pair had driven from 58820 County Road 426 to a residence on Pearce Street in Gwinn before witnesses encountered the subjects and called 911.

Both subjects were transported to UPHS – Marquette before being flown down to the University of Michigan for treatment of severe burns. The current status of the subjects is unknown at this time.


WELLS TOWNSHIP — Two people transported downstate for the treatment of their injuries as a result of a structure fire at a Marquette County camp Thursday night.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post were dispatched to a fire at a camp at 58820 County Road 426. just before 11:00 p.m.

A 36 year-old male and a 40 year-old female, both from Gwinn, were injured in the fire. Both were transported to UPHS – Marquette before being flown to the University of Michigan for treatment.

The names of the injured subjects are not being released pending notification of next to kin. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Marquette County Dispatch, Wells Township Fire Department, Forsyth Township EMS, Forsyth Township Police Department and U.P. Health System EMS assisted the troopers.
