Gwinn man arrested on criminal sexual conduct charges

FORSYTH TOWNSHIP — A Gwinn man was arrested on charges of criminal sexual conduct on Saturday.

Officers from the Forsyth Township Police Department arrested 23 year-old Marquon Shavonte Woods on three-count felony warrant, as authorized by the Marquette County Prosecutors Office. Woods was charged with first degree criminal sexual conduct (person under 13, defendant 17 years of age or older), punishable by up to life in prison and a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years, and two counts of second degree criminal sexual conduct (person under 13), punishable by 15 years in prison.

The charges stem from an assault that was reported on January 4th. Forsyth Township Police conducted interviews and investigations over the past two weeks, which resulted in the authorization of an arrest warrant. Investigators say the victim and Woods resided in the same household.

The Marquette City Police Department, DHS Child Protective Services and the Michigan State Police assisted the Forsyth Police.
