Speed and alcohol believed to be factors in snowmobile accident

CALUMET TOWNSHIP — Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in a snowmobile accident that happened in Calumet Township early Friday morning.

Deputies from the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department responded to a snowmobile accident around 3:45 a.m. The accident occurred on DNR Trail #3, south of Copper City Road.

A snowmobile driven by a 24 year-old Calumet man was traveling southbound on Trail #3 when he lost control and struck a tree. He was transported to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital by Mercy EMS for treatment of his injuries.

Investigators say speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the accident, but it remains under investigation.
