UPDATE: Accident causes lane closures on M-35, one driver dead

UPDATE — Wednesday, December 13 1:40 P.M.

The name of the deceased driver of the pickup truck is 82-year-old Patricia Fitch of rural Escanaba, Michigan.
The name of the owner/operator of the semi-tractor trailer is 46-year-old Jeffery Egge of Gillet, Wisconsin.

UPDATE — Wednesday, December 13 9:00 a.m.

Escanaba Public Safety responded to a motor vehicle crash on the 3200 block of Lake Shore Drive/M-35 around 4:25 p.m. Tuesday. Investigation into the crash revealed that a semi-tractor trailer had been traveling south on M-35 and stopped for a school bus that was dropping off children.

The southbound pickup truck, driven by an 82 year-old female from Escanaba, drove into the back of the semi. The driver of the pickup truck was killed in the accident.

The driver of the semi tractor was not injured. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

The roadway was reduced to one lane for both north and southbound traffic. Crews cleared the scene by 7:55 p.m.

The accident is still under investigation and the names of the drivers are not being released at this time.

Escanaba Public Safety was assisted on the scene by the Michigan State Police Gladstone Post, Michigan State Police Motor Carrier, Delta County Sheriff’s Department, Ford River Township Fire Department, Rampart EMS, Gene’s Towing and Delta County Central Dispatch.
