Community donates to ‘Fill the Fire Truck’ food drive
MUNISING — This weekend, firefighters from the City of Munising and Munising Township volunteered with members of the community to collect canned goods.
The two fire departments and the Alger County Parks and Recreation Department hosted their 2nd annual “Fill the Fire Truck” food drive. While the trucks blared their sirens, volunteers, and even Santa Claus himself, went door–to–door asking for donations.
According to the fire departments, this is an important community event that they hope to continue in the coming years.
“We try and enter into community events such as this where you’re helping your neighbors. This is a chance for a lot of people to help people that they will never even meet,” said Munising Township Fire Chief Harold Anderson. “It’s a good community project, and we wanted to be part of it.”
The food collected will benefit the food banks in Munising, the Alger County Food Bank and the St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank.
