Michigan State Police hosts prepare fair

MARQUETTE — An emergency happens when you least expect it, but are you prepared for a potential disaster? The Michigan State Police is hoping the answer is yes, but if you don’t have a plan in place, troopers are holding a prepare fair to help you make all the necessary accommodations.

Between fires, floods, high winds and severe winter weather, our area gets hit with quite a bit of emergency situations, and the newest MSP initiative is targeting families to ensure everyone has a plan. The prepare fair will be led by troopers who will explain what supplies to have, what details to include in your emergency plan and how to communicate that with family members.

“You’re less likely to panic if you have this information,” said MSP Trooper, Stacey Rasanen. “We prepare for birthday parties, we prepare for Christmas parties so if we get a plan, we’re more apt to follow the plan when things happen and that’s what we want to do. In our county, we have been working with the fifth graders for years and sending information home so parents know to do this, but we want to reach our whole community.”

The prepare fair takes place this Thursday at the Westwood Mall in Marquette Township from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
