Three people injured in rollover accident

CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP — Three people were injured after the vehicle they were riding in crashed Sunday afternoon in Chocolay Township.

According to the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred on US-41 near Country Lane around 5:15 p.m. A 2006 Toyota Corolla driven by Bruce Gustafson, 64, of Marquette, was traveling south on US-41, when he lost consciousness, which caused him to lose control of his vehicle.

The Corolla left the road, crashed through a guardrail, careened down a hill and overturned. Gustafson had to be extricated from the vehicle.

Two women in the car exited the vehicle on their own. All three people were taken to UP Health System – Marquette for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Police say an unknown medical condition caused Gustafson to lose consciousness. Speed and alcohol were not factors in the accident.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by UP Health System – Marquette EMS and the Chocolay Township Fire Department.
