SANDS TOWNSHIP — Friday morning, man’s best friend took over the Marquette County Fairgrounds. The forty-second annual Dog Show hosted by the Marquette Kennel Club will be in town until Sunday.

Dogs and their owners traveled from as far away as California and Florida to participate in this event. Over three hundred dogs will strut their stuff, and jump hurdles, hoping to win the title of “best in show.” The show works very similarly to the famous Westminster Dog Show, and the judges even have experience working with K-9’s in the popular competition.

“We’ve got an obedience ring, which is down by the horse barn, and they do different levels of obedience and rally,” said Show Chairman, Jill Rankinen. “Up here, we’ve got confirmation, where the dog is judged on its body type, it’s gait, whether or not it’s got full dentition, and the overall condition of the dog.”

The Dog Show will feature four shows in all- one Friday, two Saturday, and the fourth and final on Sunday. Tickets are five dollars and you can get them right at the show. There will be food and drink on site to purchase as well.
