Nominations open for local award

MARQUETTE– Do you know someone who is dedicated to supporting and mentoring young women?

Individuals in Marquette County who empower young women; by demonstrating excellence in their business and volunteering can be nominated for the Evergreen Award. In order to nominate someone you must complete a form, explaining how your nominee empowers girls. The award recipient is chosen by a selection committee made up of community leaders and last year’s winner Executive Director of Big Brothers and Sisters Jayne Letts.

“When these people receive the award and often they don’t realize how much impact they have on the community,” coordinator Lucille Contois said. “There is humility involved, they do it because that’s their passion and they make a big difference in the community. We need to see that, we need to know that our community is producing these kinds of individuals.”

The deadline for nominations is September 21st. Every year the Evergreen Award is presented by surprise to the recipient at Northern Michigan University. The Evergreen Awards are a continuation of the Athena Awards.
