HOUGHTON–The Copper Country Rock and Mineral Club is hosting their annual Gem and Mineral show all weekend at Houghton Elementary School.

A variety of different rocks, gems and minerals from all over the world are on display and some are even available for purchase. The show may be smaller than in previous years, but there are still many different specimens to view.

“We have nine dealers from all over Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan here will a lot of their wonderful specimens that they have purchased and are selling to other people,” said Marg Rohrer from the Copper Country Rock and Mineral Club. “It’s always nice to be able to be here and to show off our wonderful community to the people of the Copper Country and the U.P.”

While at the show, kids can use a metal detector to find copper. There are also displays put together by local members of the Rock and Mineral Club that feature local minerals like datalite, greenstone and, of course, copper. The Gem and Mineral Show will be open Friday until 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 p.m. to 3 p.m.
