NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP — In recognition of World Breastfeeding Week, the Marquette County Health Department is holding an event Saturday to promote and support the action of breastfeeding.

The 7th Annual Marquette County Big Latch On event will be held Saturday at the U.P. Children’s Museum Courtyard. This experience is part of a global event that aims to break the world record for the most women breastfeeding at the same time.

Vicki Wood, who works for the Marquette County Health Department, says breastfeeding has many benefits for both mom and baby.

“For babies they stay healthier especially during that first six months when all they need is breast milk,” said Wood. “For moms, they’re finding out down the road we have protection against the female cancers and osteoporosis.”

Tomorrow’s family friendly event is free and open to the public. It starts at 10:00 a.m.
