Escanaba closes Igloo locker room after finding mold

ESCANABA — Officials at Escanaba High School are working to find a different place for their football players to suit up after finding mold in the Igloo locker room.

According to a release from Superintendent Dr. Coby Fletcher, some concerns were raised about the facility over the summer. Air quality tests revealed significantly elevated levels of mold throughout the Igloo structures.

The mold is most likely due to a lack of guttering above the doors, unconditioned air, water leaks from appliances in the building, and spores from the outside tracked into the carpet as players return to the field. The Igloo is closed to all athletes and coaches until the problems are fixed.

The facility should be ready for the Eskymos first home varsity football game of the season on August 25th. Anyone that wants a copy of the full report can view it at the superintendent’s office.
