Fundraiser for couple who lost home in fire

MARQUETTE– The community is coming together to support an Upper Peninsula couple who lost everything in a house fire.

Teaching Family Homes of the Upper Peninsula and the Marine Corp League will be putting on a BBQ fundraiser for Bob and Sandy Bannan Saturday from noon until 4 p.m. at the Marquette American Legion post. The couple lost their home and most of their possessions in a house fire this past April.

Tomorrow’s fundraiser will include a number of different raffles and prizes that have been donated by the community as well as food. Those organizing the fundraiser say that the couple has given a lot to their community and it feels good to see the community give back.

“It’s really heartwarming, every place that I’ve gone people go ‘oh yeah, I know the Bannan’s, they’re wonderful people and it’s almost like they can’t give enough,'” said Dave Mastric of Teaching Family Homes of the Upper Peninsula. “Bob, he’s been the coordinator of the Marine Toys for Tots for as long as anyone knows; and Sandy, she’s worked her whole career with children and families in crisis. Both of them are two of the most giving people you’ll ever meet in this world.”

All of the money raised Saturday will go toward helping the couple recover from the fire. Mastic says they want to see the community come out in support of the Bannans.
