MARQUETTE — UP Health System – Marquette has announced that Steven Salyer, MBA will assume the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO) effective March 27, 2017. 
Salyer brings more than ten years of progressive healthcare experience to UP Health System – Marquette. Salyer led a joint venture acquisition of Shands Starke Regional Medical Center in conjunction with Shands University of Florida, which resulted in improvements in quality, patient satisfaction, employee satisfaction, and volume growth. Salyer served as Chief Executive Officer of Sebastian River Medical Center in Sebastian, Florida and as Chief Operating Officer of Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach, Florida. 
Salyer has a strong track-record of achieving excellence in patient satisfaction, employee satisfaction, physician satisfaction, and both quality and financial metrics. He received his MBA from the New York Institute of Technology, Ellis College in New York, NY, and holds certificates in Lean/Six Sigma, Theory of Constraints, and executive leadership, as well as Marine Corps Officer leadership training. 
Prior to entering healthcare, Salyer served as a Captain in the Marine Corps and served both in peacetime and in combat support operations in Al Asad, Iraq.
