Local students and residents polish résumés for job fair

MARQUETTE — The Northern Michigan University Winter Job Fair was held Wednesday, giving prospective employees the chance to network and interact with businesses and state departments.

From nursing centers to Wal-Mart, a great variety of employers visited NMU’s campus. Although it was in the University Center, anyone from the area was invited to stop by. Holding these events gives people of all ages the chance to learn about all the employment options available to them.

“One of the positions we hire for is a Services Specialist, which does require a Bachelor’s degree, this gives us an opportunity to get out and talk to students and let them know we’re out there. A lot of them don’t even think of the state of Michigan when they are looking for jobs, so it just gets our name out there,” said Department of Health and Human Services Human Resource Specialist, Doris Crandall.

The next opportunity people can get to show off their resumes and skills on NMU’s campus will be in September for the Construction Management and Engineering Technology Career Fair.
