Check scam circulating around the area

CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP — A local police agency is warning residents of a check scam making its way around the area.

According to the Chocolay Township Police Department, checks are being sent via mail with a Canadian Postage stamp on the envelope. The check inside is not valid and should not be cashed.

So far three residents in the area have received the checks. Officers say that if it seems to good to be true, it probably is. If you receive these documents in the mail, officers recommend shredding them. And if you receive any other questionable mail, you can report it to the department.
