Weather conditions cited as a factor in fatal accident

DOYLE TOWNSHIP — One person is dead after a semi-truck and pickup truck collided early Friday morning in Schoolcraft County.

Just after 2:30 a.m., Troopers with the Michigan State Police St. Ignace Post were dispatched to the accident on US-2, west of Jackson Road near Gulliver in Doyle Township. One of the drivers lost control of their vehicle and collided with the other vehicle.

A passenger in the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup was taken to UP Health System – Marquette for treatment. The two occupants in the pickup truck are from Patterson, New Jersey.

Both occupants in the semi-truck are from Ontario, Canada. They were both taken to Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

US-2 was closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene. Names of those involved in the accident are being withheld at this time.

The crash remains under investigation.
