Two dead following two-vehicle accident

GLADSTONE — Two people are dead following a two-vehicle accident in front of Delona Restaurant in Gladstone Friday afternoon.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Gladstone Post say they responded to a report of a two vehicle accident on US-2 and US-41 at 1:43 p.m.

Investigation into the accident revealed that Jack and Virginia Johnson of Gladstone were pulling out of the Delona Restaurant’s parking lot when the traveled into the path of a northbound vehicle driven by a 47-year-old Rapid River woman.

Jack was pronounced dead at the scene. Virginia was airlifted to U.P. Health System – Marquette, but ultimately succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. The other driver sought her own medical care at OSF St. Francis.

Alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in the accident. Officers from the Department of Natural Resources, Gladstone Public Safety, Escanaba Public Safety, Valley Med Flight, Rampart and Gene’s Towing assisted troopers at the scene.
