NEGAUNEE– One Upper Peninsula Festival celebrating our ability to thrive in snow will be revitalized.

The Heikki Lunta festival will be held in Negaunee this year and it’s put on by the Negaunee Luge Club.

Heikki Lunta celebrates the area’s Finnish heritage as well as the fun you can have during winter time. The festival will feature a parade, contests and entertainment every night downtown and organizers say they hope to provide family friendly fun.

“We love winter, we love to celebrate snow and all the fun things you can do outside here in the U.P,” said Tammy Wills, Secretary of U.P Luge, “so we’re really looking for this weekend to be a fun time for families to get out and celebrate.”

“To survive the wintertime you have to have fun in the outdoors,” said Fred Anderson, President of U.P Luge, “so our idea to with the Heikki Lunta festival in Negaunee is to show all the fun things we can do in wintertime.”

The festival is named after the mythical Finnish man who brought snow to a much needed competition with a dance.
