‘Scrooge’ hits the Forest Roberts Theatre

MARQUETTE — For the first time in six years, a stage rendition of a popular Christmas classic is being performed at the Forest Roberts Theatre Thursday.

Unique directing choices and acting styles are just a few surprises the audience can expect during the upcoming performance of ‘Scrooge.’ The play is based off the Charles Dickens’ classic, ‘A Christmas Carol.’

A plethora of community members are using their talents to tell the tale of an old miser who finds the true meaning of Christmas.

“The amount of talent from the community, the theatre program, the youth, everyone involved this year is really putting together an amazing show,” said actor Robert Shirlin. “It’s an amazing show worth coming to see.”

“I think it ties in well with this being a community production,” said actor Jason Parks. “There’s obviously NMU students, but there’s also young children, there’s myself, this is my first show. The thing about ‘Scrooge’ is it’s a story about humanity and how we all fit together.”

The play is a fundraiser for the Forest Roberts First Nighters Club Advisory Board. Opening night is Thursday, December 15 at 7:30 p.m. with showings at the same time on Friday, December 16, and Saturday December 17, as well as two matinees at 1pm on Saturday and Sunday, December 18.
