U.P. pupils kick off first day of school

ISHPEMING — Whether or not you’re ready for summer to be over, it’s that time of year again.

Many students across the Upper Peninsula had their first day of school today. There were plenty of excited teachers and students at Birchview Elementary School as students geared up for the brand new school year.

Students reported to the school at noon and had a half–day. The goal of the first day was to get the year off to a good start with the students meeting their teachers and classmates for the year.

“Well we have started on a half day the past several years, said principle Bernie Anderson, “it works good to get the teachers organized, the students to come in, learn procedures, gets us off to a start.”

School officials said they were excited to see the students and teachers coming into school again. Many of the students said they were excited to meet their teachers and spend time with their friends. Students also said they were excited for gym class.
