Wildcats hold annual Green and Gold game

MARQUETTE — Tuesday night, the Northern Michigan volleyball team gathered at Vandament Arena for the annual Green and Gold intra–squad scrimmage.

The game featured the Lady Wildcats split up into two teams as they put on a show for the home crowd. Head coach Dominic Yoder says it was a chance for him to see where his team stands with a few weeks to go until the start of the season.

“On both sides of the net, we just wanted to really establish the competitive atmosphere and willing to compete in any given situation. The White team was making adjustments as they were moving through their match to really try to counter what the Green team was doing. The second part was making the counter of what the opponent was trying to do. So just being really good, smart volleyball players,” Yoder said.

NMU will be bringing back a very strong junior group led by Kayla Chosa, Jamie Hogeboom and All–American Madison Whitehead. Coach Yoder talked about their impact on the team.

“We’ve had them for three years. I’ve been pretty blessed with that class. For them to really step in as juniors, and continue to roll and improve. That’s what we asked them in the off-season, to just really improve one step or two steps as they moved into their junior years,” said Yoder.

The Wildcats will open the season next Thursday at Southwestern Oklahoma, before taking part in a few regional tournaments. The home opener will be on September 27th against Michigan Tech.
