Conference brings discussion of rails to university

MARQUETTE– A conference was held today at Northern Michigan University that focused on our states railways.

Officials of the conference say that it featured around thirty speakers who talked about issues involving Michigan’s railways and other economic issues, such as minerals and timber. 1 speaker, Tom Baldini said that the transportation of these products was good to include in the discussion.

Baldini said, “But transportation, I mean rail, how do we get products in, how do we get products out, what is the cost, what are the rail lines, all of these issues are rather important.”

Even though NMU hosted the event this year, the conference is put on by Michigan Tech University. In addition to the speakers, the conference will feature a number of different tours around the U.P.
