Good times at “Best Little Fair” in the north

PELKIE — They call it the “Best Little Fair In The North.” The Baraga County Fair was held over the weekend in Pelkie and despite its size, there was still a lot going on.

Baraga County Fair Manager Mindy Lantz said, “We had the Country Mudder Race this morning, which was an obstacle race going through mud pits, over hay bales, through tires, flipping tractor tires—and then we also had some painting classes this year and those were a big hit also.”

Courtney Mayo was named the 2016 Baraga County Fair Queen Friday evening, on the opening day of the fair. Sarah Dix was selected as first runner-up, and Anna Pietila as second runner-up.

In an unusual result, the Miss Congeniality award was shared among all five contestants, with each receiving one vote from one of the other competitors. The fair also featured a lot for kids to do…with bouncy houses and Walk on Water Balls.

The demolition derby and off-road race capped off the weekend on Sunday.
