Bail set at $1 million for man accused of conspiracy to commit murder

MARINETTE COUNTY — One million dollars. That’s how much a Wisconsin Judge set bail for a 74-year–old man accused of trying to hire a hitman to kill his son and his son’s wife.

Robert Dettmering made his first appearance in court early Monday morning. He is charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit first–degree homicide.

Police say Dettmering wanted his son and his son’s wife dead over a property dispute. He attempted to hire a hitman to kill them both.

The hitman ended up being an agent with the Wisconsin Department of Justice. According to ABC Affiliate WBAY, Dettmering is to have no communication with the victims or his children.

He is due back in court August 15th.
