Home a total loss after early morning fire

IRONWOOD — One person was taken to the hospital after a fire broke out at an Ironwood home early Tuesday morning.

Officers from the Ironwood Department of Public Safety say they were dispatched to a report of the fire on the 300 block of East Oak Street shortly after 3:15 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found the first floor engulfed in flames. Three occupants at the home were able to evacuate. One person was transported to Aspirus Grandview Hospital for treatment.

The home received extensive damage and is considered to be a total loss. Family pets were also lost in the fire.

The fire was brought under control within a half hour. Officers cleared the scene shortly after 5:00 a.m. Two volunteer firemen assisted seven Public Safety officers in battling the blaze.

Ironwood Public Safety Fire Marshal Brandon Snyder is investigating the cause of the fire.
