MARQUETTE — A Forsyth Township man charged with five felonies, including attempted murder, appeared in court Tuesday afternoon for a preliminary exam.

Steven Devalle, 42, is accused of assaulting a woman and preventing her from calling 911 in the early morning hours of July 5th at her residence in Forsyth Township.

On the witness stand, the victim said that the defendant seemed anxious that night and that he wasn’t acting like himself.

The victim added that Devalle became violent, choking her with one and two hands.

Devalle later fled the residence and was arrested the next day by police in Delta County.

District Court Judge Rodger Kangas will review the evidence and make a decision on whether or not there is enough probable cause for the case to move forward to circuit court.
