ABC10's Chelsea Birdsall to sit down with Sheriff candidates

MARQUETTE — Current Sheriff Mike Lovelace is retiring at the end of this year.

Three men, all with extensive backgrounds in law enforcement, are running for the position The election takes place in just under a month.

“I have people tell me all the time, ‘Oh I don’t vote in the primary, I only vote in the general election when the president runs, when it counts.’ Well I tell people it counts, now,” said Marquette County Sheriff Mike Lovelace. “This is the race, the race is in the primary. You have to get out and vote and you have to make your voice count. This is an important race.”

The hopeful candidates are Chocolay Township Chief of Police Greg Zyburt, Marquette County Under Sheriff Mike Klein and Road Patrol Supervisor Lowell Larson. Between the three, their platforms range on a wide variety of community concerns from the dark stores issue to the addiction problem plaguing the county.
