Ms. U.P. hosts 2016 Pioneer Princess Pageant

NEGAUNEE — Give a kid a microphone and they’re bound to say something adorable. That was more evident than ever at the 2016 Pioneer Week Princess Pageant.

The crowd at Negaunee High School was thoroughly entertained by the contestants who competed for the Pioneer Princess crown.

Ms. Upper Peninsula 2016, Eliisa Gladwell played host to the event.

“We’ve been doing Pioneer Days for as long as I know, for as long as anybody knows here in Negaunee. It’s definitely an event that brings everybody together,” she remarked.

According to Gladwell, it’s the youngest group she’s personally seen compete in the event; with only two returning contestants from the previous year.

The contestants were judged based on their interview, their walk, and a question. It was just another community–bonding event in a series of them that make up Pioneer Week.
