Rallying for donations
IRON RIVER — It may be summer time and normally guys shave their heads to keep cool, but these two men weren’t trying to stay cool, they decided to help out a great cause by shaving their locks.
Fresh air, exercise and friends joining together to not only support each other and others but to educate and help fight the battle against cancer is exactly what Iron County Relay for Life did at Nelson Field this past Saturday. And with the help of two very special men they were able to raise over three thousand dollars, with that number growing as the day continued.
“I’m a cancer survivor, been in remission for ten years and I wanted to give something back. Give some glory to God, through Jesus Christ and give a little love to our local hospital, who I had all my treatments here at Iron County Aspirus.” Stated Louis Johnson Ten Year Cancer Survivor.
Iron County is known for rallying to help those in need and once again came up with an aspiring way for donations. Bruce and Louis were the first two brave souls to shave their heads in support. Bruce added, “I wanted to support my friend. I found he was doing it by himself, and I thought he could use a friend to do it with him, and that was my main goal. And of course it’s a great cause.”
Relay for Life had a great turn out, with local favorites giving back, like Nick Baumgartner doing his share by having the courage to get into the dunk tank and laughing his way through the numerous plunges.
