L’ANSE– Several communities took advantage of the free fishing this weekend.

Organizers are calling the 11th annual Baraga County Lake Trout Festival an overwhelming success. A beautiful Saturday in L’Anse helped make the festival among the best attended so far. The morning began with a variety of runs and bicycling events.

Fitness Coordinator for the BCMH Fitness Center Kim LaBerge said, “We have everything from—well, what I coordinate is the half marathon, the 8–mile run, the 8–mile walk. We have a family 5k and we also have a 22–mile leisure ride, bike ride, that we do.”

The highlight of the festival is the Keweenaw Bay Classic Fishing Tournament. This year, there were a record 134 boats registered for the tournament with more 400 people participating.

LaBerge said, “Well, I think with the free fishing weekend and just everything that we have going on in the area, I think that it’s a fun time.”

Kids got in on the action as well with plenty of activities and the Little Miss Superior Talent Show. It was a great day for everyone to get caught up in the action, unless, of course, you’re a fish.
