UPDATE: Names released in fatal three-vehicle collision

UPDATE — 10:00 a.m. June 7th, 2016 (EDT)

The names of those involved in the fatal three-vehicle collision in Breitung Township Monday evening have been released.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Iron Mountain Post say Rodney Nelson, 62, and Randall Nelson, 58, both of Quinnesec, were the two men who died as a result of the crash. Randall was pronounced dead at the scene while Rodney later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

The driver of the westbound vehicle that collided head-on with the Nelson’s vehicle was Nicole Vanderlin, 22. The driver of the third vehicle was Patricia Gedvick, 53. According to police, both women are being treated at Dickinson County Hospital at this time.

BREITUNG TOWNSHIP — Two men are confirmed dead after a three vehicle accident Monday afternoon. Both fatalities are men from Quinnisec. Authorities have not released their identities as of Monday evening. The head-on collision involving three cars took place at about 4:20 p.m. on Breitung Cutoff Road, near Hydraulic Falls Road.

The two men, aged 62 and 58 years old, were traveling eastbound when their vehicle collided head-on with a westbound vehicle driven by a 22-year-old female from Vulcan. A third vehicle, also traveling east, driven by a 53 year old woman from Vulcan, collided with the rear of the vehicle occupied by the two men.

Both women were transported to Dickinson County Hospital for unknown injuries.

The 62 year old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene while the 58 year old driver was transported to the hospital, where he died of his injuries.

Everyone involved was wearing a seat-belt and airbags deployed in all three vehicles.

Multiple emergency vehicles were on scene, many attending to the injured. Reportedly, the Jaws of Life® were used to extract victims from the wreck.

Many roads surrounding the accident were closed while emergency crews investigated the scene since 4:30. The road is now open.
