Memorial Day Ceremony at Mattson Lower Harbor Park
MARQUETTE — Veterans of Marquette County gathered in Mattson Lower Harbor Park today; to remember their fallen brothers from Vietnam.
It took place just off the beautiful shores of Lake Superior; a tradition nearly 20 years strong.
“We’ll have some music, and then we’ll have the reading of the names, and then we’ll have a rifle salute and taps,” explained Vietnam veteran, Steve Mahaffey.
Passerby in the park enjoying a remarkable summer afternoon stopped and watched, as the names were read aloud and the trumpets played a familiar tune.
A reminder that those who fell are still alive and well in the hearts and memories of those gathered in Lower Harbor.
