UPPER PENINSULA — According to AAA Michigan, 1.2 million Michiganders are expected to travel this holiday weekend. That number is up 2% from a year ago.

With more vehicles projected to be on the road, you will see a heavier police presence. Troopers with the Michigan State Police are once again taking part in Operation C.A.R.E.

Police will be looking for motorists not wearing their seat belts, distracted drivers and drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Eight people died in six different fatal traffic accidents on Memorial Day Weekend last year.
