UPDATE — 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2016 (EDT) The National Weather Service has confirmed two separate tornadoes touched down in western Marquette County.
The first tornado touched down near the Marquette and Baraga County border; with the second near CR-four-seventy-six just south of the Greenwood Reservoir.
BARAGA / MARQUETTE — One day after warm and dry temperatures helped fuel two wildfires in Marquette county, Mother Nature threw the area a different curveball this afternoon.
Just after 2:20 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a Tornado Warning for parts of Baraga County and Marquette County. The warning was extended for Marquette County until 3:45. According to the national weather service, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Lake Michigamme prompted the weather warning. Schools in Marquette County were on lockdown throughout the warning.
More rain and storms are in the forecast for tonight and into the early morning hours.
