Investigation into body found in Lake Superior ongoing

MUNISING — The National Park Service is investigating the discovery of a body in Lake Superior.

Officials from the Pictured Rocks National Lakshore say fishermen reported the body floating in Murray Bay near Grand Island Monday afternoon. National Park Service Rangers were joined by Michigan State Police and U.S. Forest Service personnel in recovering the body of a white male from the water.

The National Park Service is looking into the possibility that the body may be associated with an abandoned vehicle found at Miners Castle in early April. Officials say land, air, and water searches conducted at that time revealed nothing.

The body was transported to Marquette for an autopsy, which was conducted Wednesday morning. The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
